Radical Homemakers: Reclaiming domesticity from a consumer culture is the latest book by Eatwild farmer (Sap Bush Hollow Farm in NY), writer, and cookbook author Shannon Hayes.

Radical Homemakers is about men and women across the U.S. who focus on home and hearth as a political and ecological act; who center their lives around family and community for personal fulfillment and cultural change.

Hayes selected twenty households from those that responded to a notice posted on her website, plotted them on a map across the United States, and set about visiting each of them to see what homemaking could look like when men and women shared both power and responsibility. Curious to see if Radical Homemaking was a venture suited to more than just women in married couples, she visited with single parents, stay-at-home dads, widows, and divorcées. She spent time in families with and without children. Then she wrote the book about what she found.

If you ever considered quitting a job to plant tomatoes, read to a child, pursue creative work, can green beans and heal the planet, this is your book.
