Our original Ceramic Butter Keeper (off white with a blue stripe) has been so popular that when this White Porcelain Butter Keeper became available we wanted to add it to the store as well. It is almost identical in size to the Ceramic Butter Keeper, but has a clearer white color and no stripe.

The White Porcelain Butter Keeper, called a "Butter Bell" in France, keeps butter fresh—and spreadable—at room temperature for up to 30 days without refrigeration.

By insulating, protecting and cooling butter, you can maintain it at a perfect spreading consistency. Water is used to provide an airtight seal protecting the flavor and freshness. Just add 1/2 cup cold water to the bottom of the bell, then invert the butter filled top into the container. The water seals out the air, keeping the butter soft and sweet.

The Butter keeper is 4" tall by 3 1/2" and holds one stick (1/4 pound) of butter. This old-fashioned method of keeping butter fresh will add even more enjoyment (is this possible?!) to eating butter from pastured cows.

The Butter Keeper should be stored away from direct heat or sunlight and the water replaced every three days. If the temperature gets very warm, about 90 degrees, you may need to refrigerate it or you can try putting a little ice in the water.

NOTE: The Butter Keeper (and other non-book items) does NOT qualify for Media Mail shipping. Be sure to select Parcel Post or Priority Mail during checkout.
